📖 Is Jesus the Archangel Michael? What the Bible Actually Says 💥

👋 Introduction — A New Series Begins!

Hello, LIT Family! 🙌 I pray you’re doing well and ready to grow deeper in your understanding of God’s Word. We just wrapped up our series on the 5 Arguments Islam Uses Against Christians — if you missed the last article, make sure to check it out!

Today, we’re starting a brand-new series where we’ll break down the 5 arguments Jehovah’s Witnesses use against Christians. Jehovah’s Witnesses often claim to be Christians — but they are not. 🚫

Any belief system that denies the deity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ cannot claim to follow the one true God of the Bible. Jesus Himself said, “Unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:24).

So, let’s address their first major argument: the claim that Jesus is not God.

In this teaching, we’ll break down what Jehovah’s Witnesses actually believe about Jesus, why that belief isn’t consistent with Scripture, and what the Bible truly reveals — that Jesus is God the Son, the Creator, Judge, and One worthy of all glory, worship, and praise! 🙌🔥

❓ Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Believe Jesus Is God?

Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Jesus was created by Jehovah as the archangel Michael, before the physical world existed. They say He is a lesser, though mighty, god.

Yes, you read that right 😅 — they believe Jesus is “a god,” but not the Almighty God.

From their own writings:

“At times, individuals are known by more than one name. For example, the patriarch Jacob is also known as Israel, and the apostle Peter, as Simon. (Genesis 49:1–2; Matthew 10:2) Likewise, the Bible indicates that Michael is another name for Jesus Christ, before and after his life on earth. Let us consider Scriptural reasons for drawing that conclusion.”

They also say:

“God’s Word refers to Michael ‘the archangel.’ (Jude 9) This term means ‘chief angel.’ Notice that Michael is called the archangel. This suggests that there is only one such angel. In fact, the term ‘archangel’ occurs in the Bible only in the singular, never in the plural. Moreover, Jesus is linked with the office of archangel.”

😮 So, according to their teaching, Jesus is Michael the Archangel — a created being, not co-eternal with God, and certainly not to be worshiped as God.

But let’s pause and ask: Is that really what the Bible teaches?

📜 Does Colossians 1 Say Jesus Was Created?

Now, family, this is where the real issue lies with Jehovah’s Witness theology. Their translation of Colossians 1:15–17 changes the very nature of who Jesus is.

Let’s look at how it appears in the New World Translation (NWT):

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been created through him and for him. Also, he is before all other things, and by means of him all other things were made to exist.” (Colossians 1:15–17 NWT)

Seems simple at first glance, right? But there’s a huge problem. 👀

The issue revolves around that little word — “other.”
They inserted the word other several times to make it sound like Jesus was one of God’s creations, and that everything else was created after Him.

Let’s go back to the original Greek text (the same way scholars and early church fathers would read it):

Colossians 1:15–17 (Greek):

Let’s break this down 🔍

  • The phrase τὰ πάντα (ta panta) means “all things.”

  • There’s no word for “other” anywhere in the Greek text.

  • So the passage should read:

“For in Him all things were created… all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

So if Jesus created all things — and nothing was made without Him — then He cannot be a created being.

Jehovah’s Witness translators inserted “other” to make it fit their doctrine, not the text. 😬

John 1:3 (ESV) confirms this clearly:

“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

That means if anything was created, it was created by Jesus. And if everything was created through Him, then He Himself cannot be part of creation.

💥 The Bible proclaims that Jesus existed before all things, and that all things were created by, through, and for Him. That’s divine language — language reserved only for God.

So the question becomes: if the Bible says Jesus is before all things and created all things, then how could He possibly be Michael the Archangel?

He’s not a messenger serving creation.
He’s the Maker and Sustainer of creation. 🌍✨

🤔 What Does “Firstborn of Creation” Really Mean?

Now, family, this next point is so important because Jehovah’s Witnesses constantly use this phrase — “the firstborn of all creation” — to argue that Jesus was created first. But that’s a complete misunderstanding of what the term firstborn (Greek: πρωτότοκος) actually means in Scripture.

Let’s take a look at Psalm 89:26–27 (NWT):

26 He himself calls out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God and the Rock of my salvation.’
27 Also, I myself shall place him as firstborn, the most high of the kings of the earth.

Now this passage is referring to King David, and yet God calls David His firstborn. 🤔 But here’s the thing — David wasn’t the first son in his family. In fact, he was the youngest (1 Samuel 16:11). So why would God call him “firstborn”?

Because in Hebrew thought, firstborn isn’t always about order of birth — it’s about rank and authority. 💥

When God says He made David “firstborn,” He’s saying, “I’ve placed you in the highest position among the kings of the earth.” The same is true of Jesus.

When Colossians 1:15 calls Jesus “the firstborn of all creation,” it’s not saying He was the first created thing — it’s saying that He has supreme authority over all creation.

That’s why Paul continues in verse 16:

“Because by means of him all things were created… all things have been created through him and for him.”

If He were part of creation, He couldn’t be over it. But if all things were created through Him, that means He reigns above creation as Lord. 👑

Let’s confirm this further in Romans 8:29 (ESV):

“For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Here, firstborn refers to preeminence — Jesus is the highest among those redeemed, the head of a new creation.

So, in both Hebrew and Greek thought, firstborn points to status, rule, and inheritance.

The Jehovah’s Witness interpretation crumbles when you simply allow the Bible to interpret itself.

👑 Who Is Worshiped in Heaven — The Father Alone or Also the Son?

Alright, family, now this is one of my favorite parts. Because if you really want to know who Jesus is, just look at who Heaven worships.

Let’s go to Revelation 5, where the Apostle John is given a vision of God’s throne. In the Father’s hand is a scroll — sealed with seven seals — and no one in Heaven or on Earth is worthy to open it. John begins to weep because no one is found worthy... but then something incredible happens.

A voice says, “Do not weep! Look! The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5 NIV)

Then John looks and sees a Lamb, standing as though slain — that’s Jesus, the Lamb of God. And look at what happens next.

Revelation 5:11–12 (NWT):

“And I saw, and I heard a voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders, and the number of them was myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: ‘The Lamb that was slaughtered is worthy to receive the power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.’”

🔥 All of Heaven is crying out that the Lamb — Jesus — is worthy to receive power, honor, glory, and blessing.

Now, stop and think about this for a second. If Jesus were just an angel, why would every heavenly being worship Him?

Angels don’t receive worship — they give worship. In fact, in Revelation 19:10, when John tried to bow down to an angel, the angel said, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you… Worship God!”

But here in Revelation 5, not only angels but every creature is worshiping Jesus alongside the Father.

Let’s look closer:

Revelation 5:13–14 (NWT):

“And every creature that is in heaven and on earth and underneath the earth and on the sea, and all the things in them, I heard saying: ‘To the One sitting on the throne and to the Lamb be the blessing and the honor and the glory and the might forever and ever.’ And the four living creatures went saying: ‘Amen!’ and the elders fell down and worshiped.”

💥 Did you see that?
Every creature — in Heaven, on Earth, and under the Earth — worships both the One on the throne (the Father) and the Lamb (the Son).

That’s not just reverence — that’s divine worship. And Heaven would never worship a creature.

Jehovah’s Witnesses claim Jesus is not to be worshiped, yet Heaven itself proclaims His worthiness.

This passage makes one thing absolutely clear:

If all creation is worshiping both the Father and the Son, then the Son cannot be part of creation.

Jesus is not standing next to the throne as a servant; He is on the throne as Lord. 👑

So when Jehovah’s Witnesses say that Jesus is “a god,” they miss the truth that Scripture shouts from Genesis to Revelation: He is God the Son — worthy of the same honor, glory, and worship as the Father.

🙏 Conclusion! Jesus Is Not Created, He Is the Creator

Alright, family, let’s bring this all home. 🔥

From everything we’ve seen — from Colossians, Psalms, John, and Revelation — one thing becomes crystal clear: Jesus is not a created being. He is the Creator, the Lord, and the Eternal Word of God.

Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Jesus is Michael the Archangel, the first of God’s creations, a powerful spirit being, but not Almighty God. But the Bible doesn’t agree with that. Not even close.

Here’s what the Word of God says:

  • He is before all things (Colossians 1:17).

  • All things were made through Him (John 1:3).

  • He gives life to whom He wills (John 5:21).

  • He will judge all mankind (John 5:22).

  • He is to be honored just as the Father is honored (John 5:23).

  • He is worshiped by every creature in Heaven and Earth (Revelation 5:13).

Every single one of these statements describes God, not an angel.

If Jesus were Michael the Archangel, Heaven would be guilty of idolatry. But instead, Heaven shows us what perfect worship looks like — every tongue, every being, every creature crying out in unison:

“To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13 ESV)

That’s the sound of all creation worshiping its Creator. 🌍🙌

So to every Jehovah’s Witness reading this, I say this with love: 💔

The Jesus you’ve been taught about — the “created Jesus,” the “archangel Jesus” — is not the true Jesus of Scripture.

The real Jesus, the Jesus of the Bible, is not a messenger serving God. He is the message made fleshGod with us (Emmanuel). (Matthew 1:23)

He is the bridge to the Father, the Redeemer of mankind, and the One who conquered sin and death through His cross and resurrection. ✝️

And to all believers reading this — keep standing firm in truth. Keep studying the Word. Keep praying for those caught in deception. 🙏
Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t need arguments — they need revelation. Ask the Holy Spirit to open their eyes, to show them the living Christ, the Son of the Living God.

As Paul said in Philippians 2:9–11 (ESV):

“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Every knee will bow — angels, men, demons, and nations — and every tongue will confess the truth:
👉 Jesus is Lord.

So, to my LIT Family — stay sharp in the Word, stay burning in the Spirit, and never compromise the truth for comfort.
